22 January 2019 (London, UK): Welcome to the inaugural G20 Davos Outlook by Alpha1Strategy, a showcase of some of the forthcoming milestone events in 2019 for G20 countries, as launched ahead of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

* January 30-31 – PRC President Xi Jinping’s top economic emissary Liu He will visit Washington for the first trade talks between the US and China in 2019, following China reporting its lowest economic growth rate in 28 years in 2018. (China)

* March 29 – Barring an extension, the UK’s membership in the European Union is scheduled to end in accordance with Article 50. (UK)

* April-May – The Indian General Elections are set to take place in which the current President of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi, could become the India’s new Prime Minister, following in the footsteps of his father, grandmother, and great-grandfather. (India)

* April 11 – Brazil’s new President, Jair Bolsonaro, completes his first 100 days in office, with an expected budget in March and reforms on decree for legalising public gun ownership. (Brazil)

* April 17 – The Indonesian General Elections take place, which will allow voters for the first time in the country’s history to elect vote for representatives at all levels, including the President and Vice-President. (Indonesia)

* April 17 – The 176th (Extraordinary) Meeting of the OPEC Conference will be held in Austria, Vienna, led by Saudi Arabia. (Saudi Arabia)

* April 18 – The sixth meeting OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting takes place in Vienna, Austria, with Russia’s oil output having reached post-Soviet highs in 2018, with energy exports accounting for nearly two-thirds of its total revenues.  (Russia)

* April 30 – Emperor Akihito of Japan set to abdicate, making him the first Japanese Emperor to do so in over two centuries. (Japan)

* May 23-26 – The Elections to the European Parliament take place, with 705 MEPs to be elected for five-year tenures. (EU)

* June – The first Democratic National Party debate for candidates for the US Presidential Elections in 2020 takes place. (USA)

* June 28-29 – Japan hosts its first ever G20 Summit. (Japan)

* June 30 – Saudi Arabia takes over from Japan in hosting the next G20 meeting, with the fifteenth edition to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2020. (Saudi Arabia)

* July 1 – The USA is set to enter its longest-ever continued period of economic growth, running from June 2009 to date, and surpassing the previous all-time record between 1991 and 2001. (USA)

* July 21 – 50th year anniversary of Neil Armstrong being the first man to walk on the moon, as Virgin Galactic prepares in 2019 to have its first spaceflight in astrotourism. (USA)

* October 22 – Enthronement ceremony for current Crown Prince Naruhito to become Emperor of Japan. (Japan)

* November 1 – New five-years tenures begin for a new European Parliament, a new President of the European Commission and of a new Commission, and the appointment of a new President of the European Council and of the European Central Bank. (EU)

* November 30 – Dec. 2 – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), headquartered in Saudi Arabia, hosts the OIC Summit in Gambia, which is held every three years. (Saudi Arabia)

* December – The sixth and final Democratic National Party debate for candidates for the US Presidential Elections in 2020 takes place. (USA)

* December 31 – Despite forecasts of a recession, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan states Turkey will become the 12th largest economy in the world, taking over from Italy, in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP) in 2019. (Turkey)
