2024 – The millennium anniversary of the world’s first paper-printed money from 1024, which originates in the Sichuan province of China. (China, Global)

* 2024 – The 1400th solar anniversary of the birth of the eldest grandson of Prophet Muhammad, Hassan ibn Ali. (OIC, Global)

* 2024 – The 400th Anniversary of Pembroke College, University of Oxford, which was founded in 1664, and whose alumni include King Abdullah II of Jordan and Talal Malik of Alpha1Corp. (UK)

* 2024 – The 250th Anniversary of the Royal Humane Society, the British society dedicated to promoting lifesaving intervention and founded in 1774. (UK)

* 2024 – Gambia hosts the 15th OIC Islamic Summit. (OIC)

* January 1 – Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates join the BRICs (BRICs, OIC)

January 1 – The 25th Anniversary of euro currency being established and the European Central Bank assumes its full powers. (EU)

January 1 – The 125th Anniversary of the end of Spanish rule over Cuba, concluding 400 years of the Spanish Empire in the Americas. (EU, Americas)

January 1 – A global maximum corporation-tax rate of 15% comes into force, under a deal struck by 130 countries in 2021, with some countries to collect “top up” taxes from big firms that use legal loopholes to shift profits to tax havens with lower rates. (Global)

January 1 – The 75th Anniversary of a United Nations-sponsored ceasefire in 1949 bringing an end to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947, which results in a stalemate and the division of Kashmir, which still continues today. (Pakistan, India)

January 4 – The 40th Anniversary of Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computers, in 1984 launching the Macintosh personal computer in the U.S. (Global, USA)

January 4 – The 20th Anniversary of NASA’s MER-A (Spirit) spacecraft landing on the surface of Mars. (Space)

January 6 – The 20th Anniversary of the start of construction on the tallest human-made structure to date, the Burj Khalifa begins in Dubai UAE. (OIC, Global)

January 14 – The 30th Anniversary of U.S. President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin signing the Kremlin accords, which stop the preprogrammed aiming of nuclear missiles toward each country’s targets, and also provide for the dismantling of the nuclear arsenal in Ukraine. * January 13 – Taiwan holds Presidential elections for President to have four year tenure, with impact on relations across the Taiwan Strait and the level of US-China tensions. (Taiwan, China, US, Global)

January 15-19 – The World Economic Forum is held in Davos, Switzerland. (Global, EU)

January 19 – Japan’s Moon Sniper attempts landing. (Space)

January 23 – The 125th Anniversary of Mubarak Al-Sabah, the emir of Kuwait, signing the Anglo-Kuwaiti Agreement of 1899, a secret treaty with the British Empire to accept protectorate status for the Middle Eastern sheikdom in return for British protection of Kuwaiti territory. (OIC)

January 27 – The world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, makes its inaugural voyage. (Global)

February 2024:

February 4 – The 20th Anniversary of Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 launching The Facebook, later renamed to Facebook, a social networking website for Harvard University students. (Global, US)

February 6-7 – Commemoration of the Night Journey and Ascension of Prophet Muhammad, with some official holidays. (OIC)

February 7 – The 25th Anniversary of Abdullah II in 1999 inheriting the throne of Jordan, following the death of his father King Hussein. (OIC)

February 7 – The 40th Anniversary of US Astronauts Bruce McCandless II and Robert L. Stewart in 1984 making the first untethered space walk. (Global, USA)

* February 8 – Pakistan holds it general elections, with its previous Prime Minister Imran Khan currently in jail over what are considered politically-motivated corruption charges. (OIC)

* February 8 – Indonesia, the world’s third largest democracy, holds its general elections. (Indonesia)

February 13 – The first decade anniversary of Belgium becomes the first country in the world to legalise euthanasia for terminally ill patients of any age. (EU)

February 17 – The first undisputed boxing heavyweight championship since 1999 will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, when WBC champion from the UK, Tyson Fury, fight with Oleksander Usyk, the WBA, WBO and IBF Champion from Ukraine. (Global, Saudi Arabia)

February 21 – The 30th Anniversary of the revealing of the first photo of Pluto and its moon Charon taken from the Hubble Space Telescope. (Space)

February 23 – The second anniversary of the Russian war with Ukraine. (Russia, Ukraine, NATO, Global)

February 24 – NATO set to launch Steadfast Defender, the largest military exercise since the Cold War. (Global)

February 25 – The 60th anniversary of 22-year old GOAT boxer Muhammad Ali, then called Cassius Clay, in 1964 beating Sonny Liston to be crowned the boxing heavyweight champion of the world. (Global, USA)

February 25 – The 30th Anniversary of Israeli Kahanist Baruch Goldstein in 1994 opening fire inside the Cave of the Patriarchs, the burial site of the Prophet Abraham, in Khalil/ Hebron, in the West Bank, Palestine, killing 29 Muslims before worshippers beat him to death. (Palestine, Israel, OIC)

February 26 – The 30th anniversary of the first World Trade Center bombing in New York, USA, by Al Qaeda. (USA)

February 28 – The first decade anniversary of the number of people in the U.S. in 2014 using mobile devices to access the internet overtaking those using desktop computers for the first time, a feat which would be followed globally two years later in 2016. (Global, US)

March 2024:

March – Bulgaria and Romania set to become members of the Schengen Area through sea and air routes. (EU)

* March 3 – The 100th anniversary in 1924 of the abolition of the 407-year-old Ottoman caliphate is abolished when Caliph Abdülmecid II of the Ottoman Caliphate is deposed. (Turkey, OIC)

March 6  – The 60th anniversary of 22-year old boxing heavyweight champion of the world Cassius Clay in 1964 annoucning the change of his name to Muhammad Ali. (Global, USA)

March 10 – The 96th Oscars is held in Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA. (Global, USA)

* March 10 – 9 April – The Islamic holy month of fasting, Ramadan, takes place. (OIC, Global)

March 11 – The 4th anniversary of WHO declaring the COVID-19 pandemic. (Global)

* March 13 – The 1400th solar Anniversary of the Battle of Badr in Arabia, the first major martial battle and victory of Islam. (OIC, Global)

* March 17 – Russia holds its Presidential Election, with incumbent President Vladimir Putin expected to win. (Russia)

March 21 – The first decade anniversary of Russia formally annexing Crimea after President Vladimir Putin signed a bill in 2014 formalizing the process. (Russia)

March 24 – The 25th Anniversary of NATO launching air strikes against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999, marking the first time NATO has attacked a sovereign state. (US, Global)

March 28 – The 60th Anniversary of King Saud of Saudi Arabia’s abdication of the throne in 1964. (OIC, Saudi Arabia)

March 29 – The 20th Anniversary of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia being admitted to NATO in 2004, the largest expansion of the organization. (Global, US, EU)

March 29 – The 50th Anniversary of the discovery of the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang  at Xi’an, China in 1974. (China)

April 27 – The 30th Anniversary of South Africa in 1994 holding its first fully multiracial elections, marking the final end of the last vestiges of apartheid. (South Africa)

May 2024:

May – China scheduled to launch Chang’e 6, a sample-return mission involving a robotic lander, to the far side of the moon. (Space, China)

May 1 – The 20th Anniversary of the European Union in 2004 expanding by 10 new member states: Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia. (EU)

* May 2 – The UK holds its local elections and its mayor locations. (UK)

May 6 – The 30th Anniversary of the Channel Tunnel in 1994, which took 15,000 workers more than seven years to complete, opening between England and France, enabling passengers to travel between the two countries in 35 minutes. (UK, EU)

May 10 – The Bicentenary of the National Gallery in London is held. (UK)

May 10 – The 30th Anniversary of Nelson Nelson Mandela in 1994 being inaugurated as South Africa’s first black president. (South Africa)

May 14-25 – The Festival de Cannes is held in Cannes, France. (France, EU)

May 17 – The 25th Anniversary of Ehud Barak in 1999 being elected prime minister of Israel. (Palestine, Israel)

May 26 – The first decade anniversary of Narendra Modi in 2014 succeeding Manmohan Singh as the 14th prime minister of India. (India)

May 27 – The 25th Anniversary of the International Criminal Tribunal in 1999 for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Netherlands indicting Slobodan Milošević and four others for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Kosovo. (EU, Global)

June 2024:

* June – The 70th edition of the Bilderberg Meeting to take place. (EU, Global)

* June – The 94th Annual General Meeting of the Bank of International Settlements take place in Basel, Switzerland. (Global)

* June 2 – Mexico holds its general elections. (Mexico)

June 2 – The  “Devil comet” comes closest to Earth. (Space)

June 5 – The 40th Anniversary in 1984 of the launch of the Indian government’s Operation Blue Star, the planned attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. (India)

June 5 – The first decade anniversary of an Irhabi group now calling itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (also known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) begins an offensive through northern Iraq, aiming to capture the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad and overthrow the Shiite government led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. June 6 – The 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France for World War II. (Global, EU)

June 6-9 – The EU holds its parliamentary elections across its 27 member states for the expanded 720-seat chamber. (EU)

June 12 – The 60th anniversary in 1964 of South African resistance leader Nelson Mandela and 7 others being sentenced to life imprisonment. (South Africa)

June 13 – The first decade anniversary in 2014 of the international military intervention against Daesh begins. (Global, OIC)

* June 13-15 – Italy hosts the 50th G7 summit in Fasano. (EU)

* June 14-19 – The Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj takes place as do holidays for Eid al-Adha. (OIC, Global)

June 15 – The 30th Anniversary of Israel and the Vatican in 1994 establishing full diplomatic relations. (Palestine, Israel)

* June 16-21 – The World Biodiversity Forum takes place in Davos, Switzerland. (UN, Global)

June 21 – The 20th Anniversary of SpaceShipOne in Mojave, California, United States, in 2004 becoming the first privately funded spaceplane to achieve spaceflight. (Space)

June 25 – As part of the Cold War, the 30th anniversary in 1994 of the last Russian troops leaving Germany. (Russia, EU, USA)

June 27-28 – The European Council summit takes place in Belgium. (EU)

July 2024:

* July – South Africa expected to hold general elections. (South Africa)

July 1 – The 150th Anniversary of the Universal Postal Union from 1874. (Global)

July 1 – Hungary assumes the EU presidency. (EU)

July 5 – The 30th Anniversary of Jeff Bezos in 1994 founding Amazon. (USA, Global)

July 8–August 26 – The first decade anniversary of Israel in 2014 launching Operation Protective Edge against Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip starting with numerous missile strikes, followed by a ground offensive a week later, and in seven weeks of fighting, 2,100 Palestinians and 71 Israelis are killed. * July 8-17 – The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), the big mid-year event at the UNHQ in New York, USA, takes place to evaluate progress on SDGs takes place. (UN, Global)

July 9-11 – The US hosts the NATO summit in Washington D.C. (USA, Global)

July 12 – The 30th Anniversary of the Allied occupation of Berlin in 1994 ending with a casing of the colors ceremony attended by U.S. President Bill Clinton. (Russia, EU, USA)

July 17 – The commemoration of the Islamic date of Ashura, with some official holidays. (OIC)

July 20 – The 50th Anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. (Turkey, EU)

July 23 – The 25th Anniversary of Mohammed VI of Morocco in 1999 becoming king upon the death of his father Hassan II. (OIC)

* July 26-August 11 – The Paris Olympics takes place in France. (Global, EU)

July 28 –  The 110th anniversary of World War I’s commencement with Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia. (EU, Global)

August 2024:

August 8 – The decade anniversary in 2014 of the American-led intervention in Iraq against Daesh, when the United States military began an air campaign in northern Iraq to stem the influx of Daesh militants. (USA, OIC)

August 8  – The 50th Anniversary of the resignation of U.S. President Richard Nixon in 1974 as part of the Watergate scandal. (USA)

* August 11 – The Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics on France. (Global, EU)

August 14 – The 50th Anniversary of Turkey invading Cyprus for the second time in 1974, and Greece’s withdrawal from NATO. (Turkey, EU)

* August 17 – The new city of Nusantara is formally inaugurated as the capital of Indonesia, replacing Jakarta, after its launch in 2022 and completion by 2045. (Indonesia)

August 19-22 – The Democratic Party formally nominates its candidate for the U.S. President at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, USA. (USA)

September 2024:

September – The 75th anniversary of the founding of Hill House International Junior School in Switzerland in 1949, HM King Charles’s first school as the first heir to the British throne in a millennium to be educated outside the Royal Palace, and the preparatory school of Alpha1Strategy Founder, Talal Malik. September – Japan’s space agency, Jaxa, is due to launch its MMX (Martian Moons eXploration) mission to explore Phobos and Deimos, the tiny moons of Mars. (Space, Japan)

September – The 30th Anniversary in 1994 of the founding of the Taliban by Mohammed Omar in Kandahar, Afghanistan. (OIC)

September 3 – The 30th Anniversary in 1994 of Russia and the People’s Republic of China agree to de-target their nuclear weapons against each other. (Russia, China)

* September 10-24 – The 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) takes place at the UN, New York, USA. (Global, UN)

September 15-16 – Commemoration of the birth date of Prophet Muhammad, with some official holidays. (OIC)

* September 18 – The decade anniversary in 2014 of  the 2014 Scottish independence referendum where Scotland voted against independence from the United Kingdom. (UK)

* September 22-23 – The UN Summit of the Future opens in New York, USA, to consider the reform of multilateral bodies and global governance. (UN, Global)

* September 24 – The high-level General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) takes place at the UN, New York, USA. (Global, UN)

October 2024:

October – The Vatican is to hold synod looking into direction of the Roman Catholic faith. (Global, EU)

October 1 – The 30th Anniversary of the founding of rhe World Wide Web Consortium in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee, becoming the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web. (Global)

October 6 – The EU to start rolling out its entry-exit system (EES), requiring non-EU citizens to scan their passports when entering the Schengen free-travel area. (EU)

October 12 – The 25th Anniversary of  Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attempting to dismiss Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf, who is out of the country, after which the generals lead a coup d’état, ousting Sharif’s administration, and Musharraf takes control of the government. (OIC)

October 19 – The 100th Anniversary of Abdul Aziz, later King Abdul Aziz Al Saud, declaring himself protector of holy places in Makkah in 1924. (Saudi Arabia, OIC)

October 20 – The 20th Anniversary of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2004 being sworn in as the 6th President of Indonesia, becoming the first directly elected president in Indonesia. (Indonesia)

* October 21 – 1 November – The UN Biodiversity Conference to be held in Colombia. (UN, Global)

October 23 -The 40th Anniversary of the world learning from moving BBC News television reports presented by Michael Buerk of the famine in Ethiopia, where thousands of people have already died of starvation due to a famine, and as many as 10 million more lives are at risk. (Global, UK)

* October 24 – Russia hosts BRICs summit in Kazan, the first since its expansion to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. (Global)

* October 25-27 – The 2024 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C., USA. (Global, USA)

October 27 – NASA set to launch Europa Clipper, a probe to study the habitability of Jupiter’s icy moon Europa. (Space, US)

October 29 – The 20th Anniversary of European heads of state in 2004 signing in Rome the Treaty and Final Act, establishing the first European Constitution. (EU)

October 29-31 – The 8th edition of the Future Investment Initiative, the flagship conference of the Public Investment Fund, takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (Saudi Arabia)

October 31 – The 40th Anniversary in 1984 of the assassination of the Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, by her two Sikh security guards in New Delhi, leading to anti-Sikh riots break out, leaving 10,000 to 20,000 Sikhs dead in Delhi and surrounding areas with the majority populations of Hindus, and her son Rajiv Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister of India. November 2024:

* November – The US is expected to launch the first crewed mission in 52 years to the moon. (Space, USA)

November 2 – The 60th anniversary of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia’s ascension to the throne in 1964. (Saudi Arabia)

November 4-8 – The 12th edition of the World Urban Forum, the key global event on sustainable urbanisation, takes place in Cairo, Egypt. (UN, Global)

* November 5 – The 2024 US Presidential elections are held, with incumbent U.S. President Joe Biden. (USA)

November 11 – The 30th Anniversary in 1994 of Iraq formally rescinding its claim to Kuwait. (OIC)

* November 11-22 – The COP29 Climate Summit takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan, is held. (UN, Global)

November 13 – The 30th Anniversary in 1994 of the first passengers travelling through the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France. (UK, EU)

* November 18-19 – Brazil hosts the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. (Brazil, Global)

November 25 – The 40th Anniversary of Band Aid (assembled by Bob Geldof) in 1984 recording the charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ in London to raise money to combat the famine in Ethiopia, which is released on December 3. (Global, UK)

December 2024:

December 17 – Assuming the next United Kingdom general election has not already taken place, the Parliament elected in 2019 will automatically be dissolved, with the next general election taking place no later than January 28, 2025. (UK)

December 20 – The 25th Anniversary in 1999 of the sovereignty of Macau being transferred from the Portuguese Republic to the People’s Republic of China after 442 years of Portuguese settlement. (China)

December 31 – The 25th Anniversary in 1999 of Boris Yeltsin resigning as president of Russia, leaving Prime Minister Vladimir Putin as the acting president. (Russia) 

December 31 – The 30th Anniversary in 1999 of this date being skipped by the Phoenix Islands to switch from the UTC−11 time zone to UTC+13, and by the Line Islands to switch from UTC−10 to UTC+14. The latter becomes the earliest time zone in the world, one full day ahead of Hawaii. (Global)
