1126 – The 900th anniversary of Adelard of Bath, an English philosopher, translating Muhammad ibn Musa Khwarizmi’s arithmetic and astronomical works into Latin in 1126, codifying the various Indian numerals, thereby introducing the decimal-based positional number system to the Western world. 1776 – The 250th Anniversary of the first commercial Watt steam engine being sold in 1776 in the UK, becoming the driving force of the Industrial Revolution. (Global, UK)

2026 – US satellite company owned by Elon Musk, Starlink, set to gradually 4,400 of its satellites in 2026  that are currently orbiting at 550 kilometres above the Earth will be brought down to 480 kilometres  due to space safety concerns such as collisions. (USA, Global, Space)

January 2026:

* January 1 – Bulgaria will adopt the Euro and become the 21st member state of the Eurozone. (EU)

* January 1 – Cyprus will begin its role as President of the Council of the European Union. (EU)

* January 1 – Ugandan-born American politician Zohran Mamdani commences his tenure as  the 112th Mayor of New York City, as its first Millennial, Muslim, Asian-American and Borough of Queens Mayor, and the first to be sworn in on the Holy Quran. (USA, Global)
